This session is accompanied by an eight page illustrated PDF that covers the key points from the class.

Members can download and keep this PDF to refer back to.

Prompt: Make A Mosaic Using One Material

This session focuses on getting to know one material really well. You are encouraged to choose one material and explore different ways it can be used to make a mosaic.

Preparing materials

You will learn how to

  • Cut your material into different shapes and sizes.

  • Alter the surface of your material by faceting it.

  • Observe the different colours/textures on each surface of the tessera.

One material does not have to mean one colour. One material may contain several different colours.

Explore different ways to set your materials

This session will help you

  • Build your confidence in working with tile adhesive/thinset

  • Learn different ways to use your material, deepening your knowledge of the different effects you can create in a mosaic.

  • Focus on making the most of the materials that you already have.

This session is accompanied by an eleven page illustrated PDF that covers the key points from the class.

Members can download and keep this PDF to refer back to.

Create a slate flower

By making this project you will learn how to

  • Shape slate pieces into ‘petals’

  • Create a centre for your flower

  • Set your pieces into tile adhesive/thinset to create a dimensional slate flower..

Develop your own design
