Mosaic Membership

Are you looking for

  • New ways to get creative with your mosaic making?

  • A place to find inspiration and ideas?

  • Somewhere to connect with others who share your passion for mosaic?

Then you are in the right place!

I have been teaching mosaic classes for several years, both in person and online.  I’ve developed this membership in response to all the feedback and suggestions that I have had from students.

The things I hear time and time again are that

  • They enjoy learning with me and want to learn more.

  • They value the connections they make with their fellow classmates.

  • They love finding out more about the work of other artists.

So I’ve created a space where all these things can happen.

A Monthly Prompt

Once a month I host a live session online that consists of

  • A presentation where I’ll explain why I have chosen the prompt and what skills it will help you develop.

  • A practical demonstration where you can watch me put the ideas discussed into practice, so you can see how things are done and what kind of approaches you can take.

  • The opportunity to ask questions about the content covered in the presentation/demonstration.

Throughout the month members share their work in the group so everyone can see the different responses to the prompt.

“Monthly prompts keep the continued learning and exploring on track! Students are often looking for new ideas and inspiration in our work and having a prompt takes the anxiety and frustration out of guessing, "what should I work on next?".

Shelley J

“Love the prompt each month. Each one gives me a new way to go with my mosaic practice which I had not tried before.”

Artist interviews

Once a month I invite an artist to join us in the membership for a live session. We discover the stories behind their work and the processes they use.

Members also have the opportunity to ask questions. It’s a monthly dose of extra inspiration!

All interviews are recorded and stored on the membership platform so you can catch up on them whenever you like.

Past Guests have included

‘Each interview has the feel of being part of a private tour in an art gallery.’

Karen A

‘These interviews have been fantastic! It is such a great learning experience to hear from accomplished artists.’

A Private Community Group

Community is at the heart of the membership. Everyone is part of a private group and is encouraged to share their work and interact with others.

It’s a wonderful supportive environment, made up of people who encourage each other and are always willing to learn and share their experiences.

I check in regularly on the community, giving feedback and answering questions. It’s a great way for me to stay connected with the members and see what everyone is up to.

‘What I value about the membership is feeling part of a larger mosaic community. The sharing of members' progress on monthly prompts is wonderful. Seeing all the different interpretations and materials that members use has really expanded my horizons.’

Karen A

‘The thing I value about the membership mostly is the fact that you are part of a community of artists.  It can be quite lonely making mosaics without any input from anyone so to be able to ask anything and to have some advice on hand is invaluable to me.’

Supported Learning At Your Own Pace

All the live sessions are recorded and stored in the membership space. You’ll have access to these for the duration of your membership. This means you can choose what you want to watch and work on, depending on your time and interest.

Each prompt is also supported with a detailed handout, which means if you don’t have time to watch the training, you can get the essentials from the handout and get to work!

To support your learning there is also a bank of training videos and handouts that cover some of the techniques that you will find helpful in your mosaic practice.

What’s So Great About Using Prompts?

Prompts can be used by anyone, from beginners to experienced artists. They are helpful for all sorts of reasons.

  • Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed with all the choices and options available for making mosaics.

  • Maybe you’ve got stuck doing the same thing again and again and need a new challenge.

  • Maybe you’ve lost your mojo and can’t find the motivation or enthusiasm to get started.

Prompts give you a small, focused task to work on, reducing the overwhelm and encouraging you to get creative and to try new approaches to mosaic making.

I like the monthly prompts as it gives me time to absorb, think, and then execute. Your prompts are mentally juicy and so much fun.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The membership is open to anyone who is interested in making mosaics. Beginners are welcome, as are those who are more experienced.

  • Yes, you need to provide your own tools and materials. You are free to choose how you want to interpret the prompt and what materials you wish to use. A list of resources is provided if you need help in locating particular supplies.

  • The recordings of live sessions are all uploaded to the membership area within 24 hours of the session taking place. You have access to these for as long as you are in the membership. Once you leave the membership you no longer have access.

  • The membership is hosted on a platform called Mighty Networks. You will need to set up your own account to access all the membership resources. Live sessions are held via Zoom.

  • No! The beauty of the prompts is that you can choose to work with whatever materials you have access to and feel comfortable with. If you look at some of the samples of student work, you’ll see that they have used a variety of materials.

  • I know that life gets busy but you are under no obligation to do every prompt. Think of the prompts more like a library - you are free to pick which one you want to work on, and work on it at a time that suits you.

You can also choose how much time you want to commit to each prompt. Most can be completed within an hour or two, depending on what you choose to do. Or you can dive in deep and spend much longer exploring different options and ideas!

  • New prompts are introduced the second week of the month. The times and days will vary, most will be held on a weekday in the early evening (UK time). The artist interviews timings will vary according to their availability.

You’ll have plenty of advance notice of all times and dates so you can make plans to either attend live or watch the recordings.

  • Not if you don’t want to! I know that it can be a bit scary to share your work, particularly if you have just been experimenting with new ideas and techniques. We are often our own worst critic though. Sharing your work means you can receive feedback from others, not only boosting your confidence but also giving you tips for things to work on.

The community is a friendly, supportive one so don’t be afraid to share. As a little extra motivation, everyone who does share their work will be entered into a monthly prize giveaway to win some mosaic materials!

But if community is not your thing, you are welcome to join the membership and just watch the teaching sessions and work on things by yourself.

  • You pay a monthly fee of £28 or $35USD. When you join you are encouraged to stay for a minimum of three months.

You can also choose to pay an annual fee of £308 or $385USD, which means you get 12 months for the price of 11.

About Me

I am a professional mosaic artist and love encouraging others to get creative with their mosaic art. I’ve been teaching mosaic classes for a number of years and really enjoy interacting with my students and watching them develop their skills and confidence in mosaic making.

My favourite materials to work with are those that are organic in nature - and if you have seen my work you will know I have a particular fondness for slate. But really I love anything that will help me create texture in my mosaic artwork.

I create mosaics from my home studio in Dunblane, Scotland, and have exhibited my work both locally and at an international level.

Within the world of mosaics I find that there is always something new to learn and explore. Many of the prompts in this membership are a result of things that I have been inspired by or ideas I have wanted to explore further. Afterall, some of the best ideas come when you give yourself permission to play and experiment.

I’d love for you to join me on this journey of trying out new ideas, working on small projects and simply creating something just for the fun of it.

Testimonials

I asked my current members what they would say to someone considering joining - here’s what some of them said…

I would thoroughly recommend joining in Rachel's membership. There is an extremely useful bank of resources and as everything is recorded you can dip in and out of it as it suits or interests you. Probably most importantly, you are part of a world wide community of mosaicists. We can share work and ideas and that’s not available down at the local coffee shop last time I checked!

If you really want to learn with a very fine teacher, then I would encourage you to join Rachel’s Membership Group. Being that it is on-going, it helps to become more comfortable and confident, and you do learn a lot.
